This delightful piece portrays the friendliest of the owls. A bit of artistic license is seen in this interpretation of a Floyd Scholz design-they could certainly be love birds.

The birds are carved of tupelo, the base is carved broad-leaf maple. It may be seen in the Robert Paul Galleries.

This piece captures the symbiosis of the trained raptor and the falconer. The full-sized red-tailed hawk eagerly awaits the command to hunt.

The bird,glove and bell are carved of tupelo and finished in acrylic paints. The base is walnut. It is for sale.

[Falco columbarius]

This delightfully animated piece shows the concentration of this colorful little hunter. The merlin has spotted a prey down the beach and is captured at the moment of lift-off. Details show feather separation as he turns his head and centers his aim.

The merlin is full-sized of tupelo. The base is manufactured drift-wood, the sand is sand-blasted maple burl. It is 17" tall and 15"X20" broad. It is in a private collection.

[Poecile atricapilla]

This latest entry in the chickadee collection is life-sized and captures the softness of the curious little bird. It depicts the uncertainty of its situation as it decides whether to stay or go.

The base is native Vermont maple burl and the bird is of tupelo. The grass is made of brass. This piece is in a private collection.

[Strix nebulosa]

This comissioned piece depicts the hunting ability of the Great Gray Owl who hunts through snow by means of its acute sense of hearing. The drama of the hunt is yet to be played out. Will the field mouse survive? The sculpture is 17” tall, the Owl has 24” wingspan and is 15 “ tall. It is a one-half scale representation.

The base is white cedar. The mouse and owl are of tupelo painted with acrylics. Both animals are cantilevered on single digits.

This commissioned piece depicts the dance of survival as played out in a snowy pine forest under a full moon. The quiet stealth of the diminutive hunter has been detected at the last second by the alarmed prey. Will the chickadee escape the saw-whet?

Both full-sized birds and the stump are made of tupelo. The pine branch is made of steel and supports the owl with only four needles. All are painted with acrylics. The base is walnut.

This striking 17" sculpture was commissioned to complement the female American Kestrel carving. He proudly satisfies the curiosity of his mate as he perches across the room with his soon-to-be meal.

This charming miniature depicts a "teen-aged" bluebird brood days before they are on their own. Father is not sure who to feed. The piece is 4 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches high.

The branch separates from the base, and may be displayed with or without the elm-wood base. The birds are of tupelo. The fine detail may be seen in several of the photos. The sculpture is at the Robert Paul Galleries.

Typically a bird of the tundra, these beautiful large owls have been seen in the U.S. as far south as Oklahoma.

This piece captures the moment of a winter kill. The owl, having heard its prey under the snow, banks in and is about to pounce through the surface. One talon has touched the snow. The entire piece is suspended on the single talon.

This miniature stands 8 inches high. It is made of tupelo, as is the snow and the base is basswood. It has been purchased by a private collector.
