Carduelis tristis

This gregarious little bird is one of the first splashes of spring color at most North American bird feeders. The catkins at the base are found as left-overs from fall seed production.

The bird is tupelo, the branch is brass, the catkins are tupelo and brass and the base is leaded basswood. This piece is in a private collection.
