[Falco columbarius] This delightfully animated piece shows the concentration of this colorful little hunter. The merlin has spotted a prey down the beach and is captured at the moment of lift-off. Details show feather separation as he turns his head and centers his aim. The merlin is full-sized of tupelo. The base is manufactured drift-wood, the sand is sand-blasted maple burl. It is 17" tall and 15"X20" broad. It is in a private collection.
