Welcome to Birds in Wood!

This website showcases the artistry of Jim Maas, award-winning carver. Most recently, he was awarded The Best of Show At the Ward Museum's World Carving Championships for Intermediate level carvers. Here you can view Jim's carvings, learn about the materials he uses, the awards he's won and even learn a bit about the birds themselves.

You will notice his meticulous attention to detail. Each piece is a representation of the bird as well as an artistic sculpture.

Select a bird from the list at right to get started!

Introductory bird carving classes are now being offered at the artist's Morgan, VT studio.
Lessons (power carving) . All supplies and equipment for introductory lesson provided. $25.00/hr.
Please contact the artist for inquiries and scheduling.
