This full-sized female ruby-throat has recently laid her eggs. The male will also take his turn at incubating.

The bird and nest are of tupelo, as are the branches. The base is walnut. The piece is in a private collection.

This carving received 3rd place at the 32nd Annual Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition (2002), in the category of Novice Decorative Life-size Wildfowl – Songbirds A. It is in a private collection.
