The feather separation is enhanced by a gust of wind. The diorama takes place on the stony side of an inland stream. The merlin is of tupelo and the branch is of manufactured drift wood. The base is of natural maple burl. It is in a private collection.

Details show feather separation as he turns his head and centers his aim. The merlin is full-sized of tupelo. The base is manufactured drift-wood, the sand is sand-blasted maple burl.
